Privacy Policy
Last Updated: July 20, 2026
1. Introduction
MergeMark ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of information when you use our desktop application and website.
2. 100% Local Processing
MergeMark is a "local-first" desktop application. This means:
- Your files, documents, and extracted data never leave your device.
- All parsing and data extraction metadata are stored locally on a SQLite database on your machine.
- We do not collect telemetry, usage analytics, or crash reports without explicit opt-in.
3. Bring Your Own Key (BYOK)
If you choose to use the "Bring Your Own Key" (BYOK) feature to process unlimited papers, your API key is stored securely on your local device. When processing documents:
- Your document segments are sent directly from your machine to the respective AI provider (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic).
- We do not proxy these requests, nor do we log or inspect the contents being sent.
- You are subject to the privacy policies of the AI provider you choose to use.
4. Changes to This Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
